Recruitment
Prospective participants may apply to any of the theme programs offered by STAR. Each program is carefully designed to cover critical local and global issues using an interdisciplinary curriculum taught by local professors, industrial experts, and professionals. Acceptance into the program will be base on completion of application form and meeting all the basic requirements stated on the application. Participants will be sent admission confirmation and pre-departure information including health, travel and billing information.
Orientation
Upon arriving at the program destination, participants will be offered an orientation program that elaborates on health, safety, geography and cross-cultural adaptation skills. Basic essential key words of the local dialect will be taught to begin language communication skills that is needed to interact with people in host community to aid quicker achievement of academic objectives.
Cultural Immersion
This is a total hands-on practical approach. Participants will be introduced to the daily life of the host communities, by living amongst the natives in both urban and rural dwellings to make friends, eat the local foods and learn the language and culture. The program advisors recommend length and which families to stay with and will also provide assistance on any issue that may face participants during the cultural immersion period.
Course Works
Course work seeks to focus on real problematic issues facing the host society through lectures, seminars, and discussions with local professors, industrial experts, and professionals. Participants are urged to gain in depth understanding of these issues and begin thinking of topics that interest them the most for further research project. Field Research/Study
The STAR program will train participants on independent field research skills such as observing, interviewing, data-analysis and presentation techniques. They may involve measurements, experiments, interviewing expects or public on certain aspects of the topic. All data will have to be archived in electronic format for potential project continuity.
Capstone Project
Under the supervision of academic directors and local advisors, participants will select Independent Study Project one of the topics presented in the course work for a capstone project. The goal will be to propose adaptable working solutions to a specific issue that is of interest to the participant. Participants will be challenged to present a useable model of their project. Guests may be invited to hear capstone presentation their opinions and grading purposes.
Educational Excursions
Educational excursions will be scheduled to local destinations pertaining to the Course work for observations and discussions. Participants will be expected to documents and present their observations for credit. Number of trips will be determined as needed but never less than 3 trips.
Team Building Activities
Our Team Building programs actively engage participants, sparking creative energy, fostering innovation, and nostalgia. The carefully designed adventures taps into the skills and talents of every team member by collaborating and competing in a series of mental and physical activities that range from elaborate problem-solving exercises to light-hearted contests. We highlight problem-solving, innovation, shared leadership, communication, team planning and time management.
Volunteer Opportunities
For individuals who wish to be involved in voluntary assignments, STAR program will arrange to provide you with access to volunteer opportunities. This may vary from building social amenities, giving a talk in youth groups to teaching in schools.
